The digital era has changed the rules on the global media market. Nowadays the traditional broadcasters, film companies and other creators of content are challenged by a new competitor – the audience itself. This can be seen as a threat to the traditional industry or as a vitalization of the whole society. We take the positive stance and look forward to an exciting future where the professional media industry will work in symbiosis with the young bloggers, v-loggers and gamers. We therefore established the Participatory Academy – a new forum for all media professionals and researchers engaged in collaborative methods and techniques.

Sociable Media: Judith Donath
This group explores new directions in the design of virtual social environments. We look at questions relating to identity and society in the networked world: How do we perceive other people on-line? What might a virtual crowd look like? How can the underlying technology shape the evolution of on-line culture? Our emphasis is on design: we build experimental interfaces and installations that explore new forms of social interaction in the mediated world. Applicants should have a strong background in computer science and in design; a portfolio of work is encouraged with your application
